1. Artists' Collective of Hyde Park - "Textures" Group Show. I have 6 photographic pieces in this 17-artist member show. Following the theme, the images are unusual and textural and only one is "straight photography". The other art in the show is in a variety of media by established and talented Hudson Valley artists. ACHP is a non-profit offering art shows, workshops, musical events and studio rental space year-round. It's usually open Thursdays 3-6 pm and Friday through Sunday 12-6 pm. "Textures" is on display through July 28.
2. Queen City 15 - "Flight" is a show I have two pieces in. Here's a hint: neither one has birds in it ;) Queen City 15 is a new gallery at 317 Main Street in Poughkeepsie, NY at the site formerly known as the Mid-Hudson Heritage Center. The opening reception is June 7, 5-8 pm. "Flight" displays through June 29.
3. The annual Poughkeepsie Open Studios is on the weekend of June 15 and 16. A multitude of artists, including photographers, are participating in downtown Poughkeepsie. My space is at 35 Academy Street, a large space shared with 11 other artists including photographers, which is about to be redeveloped as "The Hive". Poughkeepsie has recently added a number of galleries, shared creative and community spaces and artist lofts and construction is underway for more. Check out all the events and artists here.
In August I plan to have a featured artist show at ACHP though it might be September if my schedule requires a change. This means a whole gallery room of my own to hang and curate as I see fit. The group show in the rest of the gallery will be "Crossing the Line". While I'm not obligated to follow the group theme for my featured artist show as a rule, the theme was my idea so I am thrilled to be able to pursue it with a larger selection of work.
I hope to see you at these events. Have a wonderful spring and summer and go take some pictures!

On Sunday, October 29, I will be doing an artist's talk about my work in the group photography exhibition, "Viewpoints". This show features the artistry of seven accomplished photographers, each of whom will be discussing their work and answering questions at an Art Brunch in the gallery of Arts Mid-Hudson, the venue and sponsor for the exhibition. Please note that this date represents the END of the show, so it's the last day you can see it. Arts Mid-Hudson is located at 696 Dutchess Turnpike, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603, next to On Location Studios and is open (apart from special events) Monday - Friday, 9-5:30.
I'm very excited about this show because my work reaches both a new area of exploration and a new level of accomplishment. I explore abstractions of curves and light in black and white, with the nature of the original objects taking a back seat to the abstractions themselves. The prints are all on metal and the series is tight and has been called "extremely intriguing", "fascinating" and "beautiful". I chose curves because they are both organic and geometrical, and possess a fluid depth and grace very accessible to the viewer.
I am also very pleased to have my work shown alongside these very talented and passionate photographers, each with their own distinct style and interests. This show results from a culmination of salon meetings with this group in which everyone grew and benefited from each other's experience and inspiration.
A review of the show that appeared in the Poughkeepsie Journal can be read here. I invite everyone to see it and to support Arts Mid-Hudson for the wonderful work they do in supporting all the arts and artists in the Mid-Hudson region.
EYE OF THE BEHOLDER
I'm also participating in the next group show, Eye of the Beholder, at Artists' Collective of Hyde Park. There will be an opening Saturday, October 28 from 5:30-8:30 pm at their gallery at 4338 Albany Post Road, Hyde Park, NY 12538. About 25 accomplished member artists in an interesting variety of 2D mediums and styles will be showing their work. This show will be on display through November 26, 2017. We hope you can join us!

This was the year I finally visited Europe for the first time - and I did it alone, and saw 5 countries: Spain, France, Italy, Greece and Turkey. More accurately, I visited towns or cities briefly in 5 countries - but it was a wonderful first taste of the beauty and history of the continent, and a great adventure, and I felt like a kid in a store full of photographic candy.
I gave a slide presentation of some of my images from the trip at Arts Mid-Hudson as part of their Unexpected Travels series and exhibit. I was concerned that I might not achieve my primary goal of sharing the experience with the pleasure I felt in traveling and creating these images, the beauty and fascination of the places I saw, but it was very well received by the audience. I'm grateful to Arts Mid-Hudson for the opportunity to share it. I've been asked to repeat the presentation in September, tentatively Monday evening September 14 at 7pm. The second presentation will include, additionally, Athens and more photos from other places that were not in the first iteration.
Art created from the images I took on this trip will be available for view in my solo exhibition at Artists' Collective of Hyde Park:
Dates: August 29 to October 10
"New Eyes and Extra Colors: Bringing the Journey Home"
Opening Reception: September 4, 4-7 pm
Gallery Open Hours: Thursday, 3-6pm; Friday - Sunday, 12-6pm
This show coincides with the members' show, "A Meeting of Minds", at ACHP. I look forward to seeing you there. I'll be participating in future shows at Artists' Collective of Hyde Park as well.
Other works of mine are on display at Queen City Bistro in Poughkeepsie and Coppola's Restaurant in Hyde Park.
Be well and live in art.

As of now, October 2014, I have several pieces on display at Artists' Collective of Hyde Park, 4338 Albany Post Road, Hyde Park NY, 12538 (Open 11-7, Thurs - Sun; winter, 12 -6). The next show there, "Whimsy", will open October 25 at 4 pm with a reception and will include new works by me and 25+ other artists. "Whimsy" will be on display for 5 weeks.
I have a piece on display at the new headquarters of Arts Mid-Hudson, Route 44, Poughkeepsie, NY.
I have a couple pieces hanging at Queen City Bistro on Main Street in Poughkeepsie, and a piece at Coppolla's Restaurant in Hyde Park. My work is also a permanent fixture in several of the rooms at the Roosevelt Inn, a welcoming place to stay while you take in historic Hyde Park.
One of my pieces has been accepted for a juried show called "Reflections" at Front Street Gallery in Patterson, which opens October 19 with a reception at 10:am. This exhibition runs until November 28.
I welcome you to visit any of the above locations. Fall is fleeting but gorgeous, and there's so much to see and do in the area, so be sure to get out and enjoy!

As of April 23, 2014, I have a show in the Poughkeepsie Common Council Chamber, 3rd Floor of City Hall, 62 Market Street in Poughkeepsie, NY running for approximately 2 months. The opening reception was quite successful on Wednesday, 5:30-6:30 p.m. prior to the Common Council Meeting. The room is open 9-5, Monday - Friday and has 10 canvas wraps of mine on display, most of which are of Poughkeepsie and all of which were taken in the beautiful mid-Hudson Valley. This exhibition represents the first time an artist has been invited to display their artwork in the Council Chamber, and it heralds a new ongoing program of local artists' work being exhibited there. This program, a collaboration between Arts Mid-Hudson and the Poughkeepsie Common Council, is a great step forward for art in Poughkeepsie.
Follow the Wild ThingsIn show: Follow the Wild Things, canvas wrap, 18x24. $300.
"Follow the Wild Things"
This member show at ACHP is going strong, running March 29 through May 11, 2014 with the work of 26 artists, including myself, in many media including painting, sculpture, photography, stained glass, ceramics, woodworking and more. My work has been included in all ACHP's shows since their ribbon-cutting in September, 2012. I am the secretary for this group, a warm and mutually inspiring artistic family that welcomes new visitors. Regular warm-weather hours: 11-7, Thursday through Sunday except the "between shows" hanging week. Each show consists of fresh art from members and occasional guest featured artists, and runs 6 weeks.
Music (and spoken word) night at the gallery is the second Thursday of each month, 6:30 - 9:30 pm. New performers welcome; contact Liz at 914-456-6700 for information. The next music night will be on May 8, 2014.
The next scheduled all-member art show will be entitled "Bloom" and will open with a reception on May 16 at 6 pm, to run through June 29.

Today my new show, "It's Not a Painting", opened at The Artist's Palate (307 Main St., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601). I had a very short window to prepare for it, so it was a great challenge, but well worth it. Now that it is hung it looks wonderful. The show features a variety of works, primarily landscapes of various Hudson Valley locations with a few that are abstract or abstracted human forms. I felt moved to entitle it "It's Not a Painting" by the number of people who have assumed my photo art pieces are paintings, or have referred to them as "painterly" (I consider this a compliment, especially when it comes from actual painters.)
Details of Photo Art Exhibit
Title: "It's Not a Painting"
Where: The Artist's Palate, 307 Main Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601
When: Monday, November 18 through January (end date TBD)
The space is an elegant, higher-end restaurant with large walls. It called for larger pieces than I have created thus far, so I got to work refreshing old images and tuning new ones to tease out the music I saw in them. I decided gallery wraps were the best approach to allow the images to have the most impact. The largest are 30x40 and similar. There are also some sets of smaller framed pieces and one set of black and white. All the large images in the main dining area are tied together by the theme of water. The smaller ones, which flow down the hallway toward the back of the space, vary more in subject matter and color palette.
I must thank Linda Marston-Reid of Arts Mid-Hudson for her hard work and support and for making this possible.
I am also looking forward to sampling the food, which has been highly recommended and seems to have great reviews.
The show runs through January; the exact end date still to be determined. I hope to see you there.
]]>The reception for my first solo show was fabulous, and I am very grateful to everyone who came and made it so special. Here are some pictures of the event.
Thanks to Cafe Bocca for hosting this show. It will run through June 1st. Thanks also to Billy Name, rather known for his own photography, who bought the first piece sold in my show, "View from the Walkway".
